On 2nd October 2019, KELIN will hold community sensitization forums with 50 women from five women support groups in Rachuonyo sub-county in Homa Bay. The sensitization forum conducted every quarter aims to debunk the social norms and legal issues that affect the right of vulnerable women to access and own property.
The forums provide an opportunity for KELIN to disseminate the developed information materials which aim to simplify various processes within institutions that provide services related to access to property rights. The tools have been developed to ensure the vulnerable populations are aware of the provisions in the laws touching on land registration, inheritance and family issues.
The developed tools included in the training are:
The expected outcome is to form a pool of women who are well versed with laws on land, family and inheritance and therefore utilizing the existing spaces to enhance, protect and promote their rights to inheritance and the rights of others.
We also hope the forums will contribute towards increased documentation among the women by writing wills, registering parcels of land individually or in association with others, obtain national identity cards and other relevant documents that enhance the process of securing property rights.
