Communities at the centre: TBEC and KELIN host interregional MAF-TB meeting under COMBAT-TB project.

Mombasa, Kenya 13th – 15th August 2025

TB Europe Coalition (TBEC) in partnership with KELIN, hosted the Multisectoral Accountability Framework to End TB (MAF-TB) Interregional Meeting from 13th to 15th August 2025, under the Unitaid funded COMBAT-TB project. The meeting brought together consortium partners from Ukraine, Moldova, Kenya, Nigeria, Tajikistan, and Zimbabwe, along with representatives from their respective National TB Programs. Global TB stakeholders, including from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Stop TB Partnership, joined to share experiences and strengthen cross country collaboration.

MAF-TB is a plan that makes sure promises made by country leaders at global platform to fight TB are not just words, but real actions. It emphasizes coordinated efforts across multiple sectors, its goal is to ensure communities the true consumers of TB services receive better prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care. By anchoring MAF-TB in national structures and securing political goodwill, countries can deliver sustained, people centered TB responses.

Country experiences showcased this vision in action. For instance, in Nigeria, MAF-TB is institutionalized within the Office of the President, this translates to faster action, more funds, and stronger commitment. while in Ukraine even with the war, people still get TB care through mobile clinics, quick tests, and shorter treatments. These examples underline that when governance prioritizes TB accountability, communities benefit most.

The meeting also highlighted the power of public private partnerships in protecting community health. Participants visited Bamburi Cement Factory in Mombasa to see occupational health measures in place to prevent TB, demonstrating how industry collaboration supports healthier workplaces and communities.

The event inspired the ongoing commitments to strengthen MAF-TB implementation, foster continuous knowledge exchange, and ensure that community needs remain at the forefront in the global fight to end TB.
