Health care providers from Kisumu, Kilifi & Nairobi County set to benefit from capacity building trainings on sexual & reproductive rights

KELIN will, from 18 to 25 July 2017 conduct a series of trainings aimed at building the capacity of health care providers on the legislative framework on sexual and reproductive health in Kenya. The trainings will be conducted in collaboration with the Reproductive Health Network and Kenya Medical Association. They are in cognizance of the recent passage of the Health Act and are pegged on the provisions of Article 43 (1) of the Constitution which states that every person has the right to the highest attainable standard of health including reproductive health. KELIN thus recognizes that health care workers can only be able to provide the highest attainable standard of reproductive health if equipped with the necessary skills, including the law.

The trainings, which will be held in Kisumu, Nairobi and Kilifi counties, are aimed at achieving the following:

  1. To enhance the knowledge of medical providers on the legal framework on sexual and reproductive health;
  2. To interrogate the concept of health as a devolved function; and
  3. To update participants on the legal and medical developments in the field of reproductive health in Kenya and in particular, the recently enacted Health Act.

As a result of these trainings, KELIN hopes to strengthen the capacity of medical providers, nurses and clinical officers on the legal frameworks governing reproductive health care while also strengthening its relationship with medical providers from the three counties as part of our broader strategic plan.
