KELIN to host a Convening with the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health

KELIN in partnership with the United Nations Special Rapporteur’s team from the Human Rights Centre, University of Essex, United Kingdom, will host a CSO consultation on the right to health and the Sustainable Development Goals. The meeting will be held at the Silver Springs Hotel in Nairobi, on 26 May, 2016. Over 50 participants from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are expected to attend. .

This consultation will provide a means for the UN Special Rapporteur to engage with regional CSOs from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to inform and support the development of his upcoming thematic report to the UN General Assembly on the right to health and the Sustainable Development Goals. CSOs will have the opportunity to share insights and experiences with the Special Rapporteur on the various ways in which the right to health must be understood within the context of the 2030 Development Agenda and the effective implementation of the SDGs.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for dialogue between the Special Rapporteur and CSOs from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to gain a regional perspective on the challenges and opportunities the SDGs present for the realization of the right to health. It is expected that at the end of the consultation partnerships and linkages between the Special Rapporteur and the civil society and communities working on the right to health in East Africa will be made.
