KELIN shares its experience on rolling out Community Rights and Gender Tools

“It is important to ensure continued involvement of stakeholders in the assessment process. The stakeholders should be from affected communities, government, civil society, community based organizations, faith based organizations, development partners, among others. This involvement may be in the technical working groups, stakeholder’s meetings, validation process, launch and dissemination of the report”.

This is one of the reflections that Mr. Maleche shared with the team of lawyers, gender, data and key populations experts at a meeting organized by Stop TB Partnership in Addis Ababa on 9 – 11 April 2018. He further emphasized on the need to ensure that the recommendations formulated are specific and targeted.

The aim of the meeting was to ensure sharing of experiences of the previous roll out of the CRG tools and prepare for the next phase of implementation in seven high  burden TB Countries. The countries include: Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Mozambique, Pakistan, Philippines and South Africa. The meeting also sought to train the participants on conducting TB gender and legal environment assessment’s.

KELIN had earlier in the year launched three tools that were part of the first phase of the project hosted by Stop TB partnership. The tools included:

  1. Tuberculosis; An assessment of the Legal Environment
  2. Tuberculosis: Data Assessment for Key, Vulnerable and Underserved Populations in Kenya
  3. Tuberculosis: A Gender Assessment in Kenya:

Going forward, KELIN plans to share these three tools with National TB Programme and Governors of eight high burden TB countries in Kenya (which include Nairobi, Mombasa, Homabay, Meru Kakamega, Turkana, siaya and Kiambu) with a view of commencing a process of taking forward the recommendation from the three groundbreaking studies. KELIN will also be available to provide technical support the country teams that are rolling out the next phase.
