KELIN and Zamara Foundation Sign Collaboration Framework to Advance Health-Related Human Rights

KELIN and the Zamara Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding “MOU”, formalising a strategic collaboration to advance health-related human rights in Kenya and across the region. The signing took place on 11 December 2025 at the KELIN offices in Nairobi.

The MOU provides a broad framework for cooperation in areas such as joint advocacy, institutional strengthening, digital health rights, and the promotion of sexual and reproductive health and rights “SRHR”. It recognises that health rights are interconnected, and that the work spans SRHR, digital privacy, youth empowerment, and the right to the highest attainable standard of health.

Through this collaboration, KELIN and Zamara Foundation will strategically integrate and leverage their respective expertise, digital health capabilities, and resources to expand access to accurate, rights-based information and strengthen community-centred initiatives. This includes ensuring that young people, especially young women and girls in their diversities, have the tools, knowledge, and supportive environments they need to claim their rights and challenge misinformation.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Ms. Wambui Kimani, Founder and Executive Director of the Zamara Foundation, stated:

“At Zamara Foundation, young women and girls in all their diversities are at the centre of our work. We are pleased to partner with KELIN, whose legal grounding and leadership in digital rights strengthen our ongoing efforts to safeguard the gains on gender equality and address misinformation and protect the spaces where young women and girls seek information. Together, we can support young women and girls to access reliable SRHR information and claim their rights with confidence.”

Executive Director at KELIN, Mr. Allan Achesa Maleche, added:

“Young people are already shaping the future of SRHR and digital rights, and our role is to ensure their voices are heard and protected. This partnership with the Zamara Foundation strengthens the spaces where young women and girls can access accurate information, challenge misinformation, and claim their health-related rights with confidence and dignity. Together, we are widening the pathways for them to thrive.”

The collaboration creates opportunities for future joint initiatives, including advocacy, medico-legal training for students, strategic engagements with stakeholders, and broader regional cooperation — all aimed at strengthening Kenya’s health-justice ecosystem.
