Description
On 2nd September 2024, Emily Lororua, gave birth at Wamba Level 4 Hospital. Immediately after delivery, she experienced severe post-partum complications, including significant blood loss, dizziness, low blood pressure, and a swelling stomach. Despite this, she was discharged on 3rd September without receiving adequate treatment for her life-threatening condition. At home, her condition worsened, and she was readmitted to the hospital on the morning of 4th September. At Wamba Hospital, she was neglected for over 24 hours experiencing delayed treatment. The hospital finally decided she needed a transfer to Maralal Level 5 Hospital but demanded payment of Kshs 10,000 for referral. The mother had Kshs 5,000 but they refused to transfer her without the full amount. The 1st Petitioner pleaded with hospital staff, even offering to be jailed if she failed to repay the amount later. Her pleas were ignored. After a delay of several hours, good Samaritans paid the balance. Tragically, Emily Lororua died in the ambulance as it was being fueled during the transfer.
