Civil societies, communities and media in Kisumu County set to be trained on monitoring the right to health

On 29 – 30 May 2018, KELIN with support from Commonwealth Foundation will conduct a training of 26 community health champions on monitoring implementation of the right to health. The training, set to be conducted in Kisumu County, targets representatives of community based organisations (CBOs), civil society organisations (CSOs), media and communities of persons living with and affected by HIV and TB.

The training is premised on the fact that a knowledgeable and empowered civil society, community and media can monitor the implementation of health at the community level. Further, with proper information, these groups will act as community watchdogs, advocate for transparency and accountability in the health sector, reveal any corrupt practices, report and document cases of mismanagement of resources, and file complaints with relevant bodies. This is the second training, in a series of four trainings which KELIN aims to conduct this year with the first having been conducted in Kakamega County.

It is expected that following the training, participants from CSOs, CBOs, media and communities will collaborate to advocate for accountability in implementation of the right to health.
