Communities and media set to train on monitoring implementation of the right to health

On 27 – 28 March 2018, KELIN with support from Commonwealth Foundation will conduct a two day training of 30 community health champions on monitoring implementation of the right to health. The training, which will be conducted in Kakamega County, targets representatives of community based organizations, civil society organizations, media and communities of persons living with and affected by HIV and TB working in Kakamega.

The training is premised on the fact that a knowledgeable and empowered civil society, community and media can monitor implementation of right to health at the community level. Further, with proper information, participants will act as community watchdogs, advocate for transparency and accountability in the health sector, expose corrupt practices, report and document cases of mismanagement of resources, and file complaints with relevant bodies, including the Judiciary, Commission on Administrative Justice, among others.

It is expected that the end of the training, CSOs, CBOs, media and communities will work together to advocate for accountability in implementation of the right to health. This training, supported by Commonwealth Foundation, is part of the project protection of right to health of the vulnerable through transparency and accountability, which will be implemented in Mombasa, Nairobi, Kakamega and Kisumu counties.
