KELIN announces three senior appointments

KELIN this week announced the appointment of Ms Saoyo Tabitha Griffith as its Deputy Executive Director.

Tabitha until her appointment headed KELIN’s thematic area on Sexual and Reproductive Rights since 2015. She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Master’s degree in Law on Human Rights and Democratization in Africa from the University of Pretoria.

Professionally, Tabitha has previously engaged in private practice in the firm of Madan-Handa Advocates and has additionally worked at the Ark Foundation, Ghana as part of her Master’s Programme. Tabitha has also served as a Programmes Officer for Reproductive Health Rights at the Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya. She will be reporting directly to KELIN’s Executive Director, Mr Allan Maleche.

KELIN has also appointed Ms Carolene Kituku as a human rights counsel as part of a three year partnership with the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA). The partnership seeks to create a pool of domestic lawyers who have expertise in litigating women’s human rights cases and to develop jurisprudence on women’s human rights issues across 10 African countries, with Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda serving as the pilot countries.

Ms Kituku holds a Master’s degree in International Law from the University of Western Cape. Her professional background spans to eight years’ experience in the fields of constitutional law, human rights, administrative law and international law

Mr Hezron Ochieng has joined the KELIN team in the capacity of an Advocacy and Training officer under the HIV & TB thematic area. This is courtesy of a two year partnership with the AIDS Rights Alliance of Southern Africa (ARASA), which will see Mr Ochieng focusing on a country grant that seeks to improve the capacity of communities affected by HIV & TB on the use of a rights based approach. Mr Ochieng holds Masters of Arts in Education Health Promotion and International Development from the University of London. He has nine years’ experience working with various local and international organizations in programme cycle management for health livelihoods on social protection in rural and urban areas. He will be based at the Kisumu office.

In relation to these appointments, KELIN ’s Executive Director Mr. Allan Maleche said, “I am delighted to have Tabitha, Carolene and Hezron on board the KELIN team for the coming years. They bring with them expertise that will complement the rest of the KELIN team. Carolene’s and Hezron’s appointment demonstrate the trust that regional partners have shown in KELIN.
