On the 20th and 21st February 2023, KELIN conducted a workshop targeting 35 participants constituting of key County stakeholders such as Members of County Assembly (MCAs), community members drawn from various groups such LGBTQI+, MSM, FSW, PLHIV, persons with disabilities, adolescent girls, and young women within Nakuru County.

The workshop held at the OLE KEN Hotel, Nakuru had as its aim equipping the participants with the requisite knowledge on County budgeting process more specifically the County Annual Development Plan and the County Fiscal Strategy Paper and their role in influencing these budget processes.  In addition to the foregoing, the participants, together with various facilitators, interrogated various challenges inimical to the implementation of SRHR Services under the Nakuru County CADP 2022.

In order to achieve the above-stated, participants were taken through engaging sessions with various facilitators and a number of group activities aimed at identifying current issues that budget champions/advocates and the rest of the participants found to be most pressing thus needed to be prioritized by the CADP and CFSP.

Towards the end of the workshop, participants drafted two memoranda and written submissions addressed to the Nakuru County leadership on various SRHR issues (including but not limited to matters abortion). The memoranda implored the Nakuru County leadership to prioritize the identified SRHR issues in the CADP 2023.

“The workshop was quite timely and very informative. I have learnt a number of things on matters county budgeting, as the budget expert broke down issues that at first looked challenging into simpler issues that are easy to understand. This information will be key in my advocacy as a budget and SRHR champion. I would like to urge KELIN to continue with the good work they do in Nakuru County and the Members of County Assembly present can attest to the fact that Nakuru County Government is becoming more progressive when it comes to matters SRHR, thanks to KELIN and its partners” – Participant.
