KELIN Partners to Host Judicial Workshop on Tuberculosis, Human Rights and the Law

KELIN, in partnership with International Human Rights Clinic at the University of Chicago Law School, Stop TB Partnership and the Judicial Training Institute of Kenya will host a Judicial Workshop on Tuberculosis, Human Rights and the Law. The Workshop will be held on 24 and 25 July 2016 at the Sarova Panafric Hotel, Nairobi. Over 70 participants including judges from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Malawi, India, Botswana, and Australia, as well as TB survivors, and legal, medical and public health experts from across the world, are expected to attend the workshop.

The workshop will provide a forum for the sensitization of the judiciary about the relationship between TB, human rights and the law, with a focus on international law and domestic jurisprudence from the region and around the world. It will also provide an avenue for judges to be informed on the biomedical, social, and economic aspects of the TB epidemic in the region.

Dialogue and development of relationships among judges from the different countries will be promoted in order to foster a human rights-based approach to TB in the courts of the region.
