KELIN to Train PLHIV & HCW on Use of an Online Tool to Report Health Human Rights Violations

On 11th and 12th March 2016, KELIN will train Health Care Workers (HCW) and Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) on using an online tool to report human rights violations. The training, which is supported by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and AIDS Rights Alliance of Southern Africa (ARASA), will be conducted at Southern Blue Hotel, Nairobi.

This training is intended to ensure that participants are equipped with relevant skills and knowledge on how to identify health human rights violations and utilise the online reporting tool. The tool is an additional avenue that exists within KELIN to report health related human rights violations.

It is envisioned that the training will empower participants with knowledge on:

  • How to use the tool when documenting & evaluating violations of PLHIV and affected communities;
  • Constitutional guarantees on the rights to health and related legislation and laws governing HIV responses in Kenya, and train them on possible cases of violations;
  • The importance of reporting and following up on cases of possible violation of health rights.

This online tool was developed through a consultative process with stakeholders and with the support of Dure Technologies Limited.  It aims to facilitate the documentation of human rights violations and access to justice to address them. It has been rightfully noted that legal empowerment and access to justice is key in realizing the right to health.
