What:  The High Court in Machakos will mention Petition 8 of 2017 challenging the constitutionality of the provisions of the FGM Act.

When: 19 April 2018.

Where: High Court at Machakos

Why: The mention is for purposes of giving directions on the hearing of the petition.

The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) and Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network on HIV & AIDS (KELIN) are participating as Amicus in the proceedings. In the joint amicus brief they shall make arguments on state responsibility to enact a legislation to prevent FGM as a form of violence against women and offer comparative jurisprudence from other constitutional democracies on what such a legislation should contain.
