Petition No 151 of 2020 CM & 8 Others v the Attorney General & Others

Description

The Petition challenging the manner in mandatory quarantine has been implemented. The Petition, filed on 6th May 2020 by seven people who were under mandatory quarantine together with the KELIN and Katiba Institute, seek to enforce constitutional protections in mandatory quarantine. The Petition argues that the way that the government is enforcing quarantine is unlawful, inappropriately punitive, violates human rights, and creates public health risks. The Petitioners seek the Court’s urgent intervention to prevent the government from unlawfully detaining people in quarantine and in “curfew breakers holding places” for violating curfew and to ensure that human rights standards are respected and protected in quarantine facilities.
