On 9th March 2026, members of the Transform Health Kenya Coalition convened in Nairobi for a one-day inception and annual meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration and advancing digital health efforts in support of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kenya. The meeting brought together coalition partners and stakeholders in Nairobi, providing a platform to reflect on progress, align priorities, and map out the next phase of the coalition’s work.
The Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN), the national coordinator of Transform Health Kenya Coalition (THKC), convened the meeting within the broader context of Kenya’s UHC Policy 2020–2030 and the Digital Health Act, which places strong emphasis on digitisation and the use of innovative technologies such as health information systems, mobile health, and telemedicine to strengthen the health system and improve access to quality care. Discussions highlighted the critical role of digital technologies and health data.
A key highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Dr. Jeremiah Mumo, acting director of Health Informatics at the Digital Health Agency, who outlined the agency’s mandate under the Digital Health Act to regulate and coordinate Kenya’s digital health ecosystem in support of Universal Health Coverage by 2030. He highlighted key progress, including the rollout of the Taifa Care system in 3,303 government facilities, distribution of over 30,000 digital devices across 38 counties, and the launch of Kenya’s first locally hosted digital health cloud, while noting ongoing challenges such as limited technical capacity, funding gaps, and digital literacy. Building on this presentation, coalition partners discussed advocacy priorities, including the #MyDataOurHealth campaign and emphasising the importance of collective advocacy, stakeholder mapping, and outcome harvesting to ensure digital health initiatives remain people-centred and responsive to community needs.
The meeting concluded with a forward-looking discussion on next steps for effective implementation, where partners identified partnership opportunities and responsibilities for advancing the coalition’s objectives.
As the national coordinator of the Transform Health Kenya Coalition, KELIN is actively involved in supporting all partners. This involves ensuring that the coalition remains informed about the evolving regulatory landscape, thereby ensuring the utilization of digital health technologies and data to attain Universal Health Coverage.
