High Court of Kenya set to deliver a key ruling in Petition 605 of 2014

The High Court will on Friday 10 June, 2016 deliver a ruling that will determine applications by parties seeking to join Petition 605 of 2014 as either friends of the court or interested parties.

These parties are: Professor Alicia Ely Yamin, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) who seek to join the Petition as amicus curiae (friends of the court); on the other hand, the International Community of Women with HIV – Global (ICW Global), and the International Community of Women with HIV – Kenya (ICW Kenya) seek to join as interested parties.  The mentioned parties save for ICW-Kenya have already been enjoined in Petition 606 of 2014, which addresses similar issues on the forced and coerced sterilization of women living with HIV.

This Petition was filed on 10 December, 2014 to challenge the unconstitutional sterilization by way of tubal ligation of the 1st – 4th Petitioners who are women living with HIV.

When: Friday 10 June, 2016 at 2.30pm.

Where: High Court of Kenya at Nairobi, Milimani Law Courts, Constitutional and Human Rights Division, on 3rd Floor (Court Room 1).
