Kakamega County to Benefit from HIV and Human Rights Training

KELIN has organized a three-day residential workshop on HIV and Human Rights from 24 to 26 June, 2014 in Kakamega County. The participants will be drawn from various support groups within the County that are members of the National Empowerment Network of People living with HIV and AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK).

The objectives of the training are to enhance the participants’ understanding on the link between HIV, Human Rights and the Law. It will also help them understand the rights of Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) as provided in the Constitution and other laws, which protect PLHIV rights. The participants will be trained on documentation of HIV human rights violations and they will be familiarized with government institutions mandated to protect human rights in Kenya.

The activity will have the presence of facilitators such as Dr. John A. Aswani from the Kenya National AIDS & STI Programme and Justice (Rtd) Vilolet Mavisi.

At the end of the training, the expected outcomes are that;
• The capacity of People Living with HIV to identify human rights violations and seek redress for improved access to justice is enhanced.
• There is increased demand by people living with and affected by HIV for access to justice.
• People Living with HIV enforce their rights through formal and informal processes and are empowered to advocate for their rights.
