Stage set for the launch of project reports on “Enhancing the legal environment for an effective HIV response in Kenya”

On 12th July 2018, KELIN will launch two reports from the project “Enhancing the legal environment for an effective HIV response in Kenya”. The Project was conducted in partnership with National Empowerment Network of PLHIV in Kenya (NEPHAK), Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) and National AIDS Control Council (NACC).

With technical and financial support from UNDP, KELIN implemented a five-year project (2012–2017) aimed at enhancing the legal environment for an effective HIV response in Kenya. The project, implemented in Kilifi, Mombasa, Nairobi, Kakamega, Kisumu and Homa Bay, was premised on the argument that the legal environment, law enforcement and justice systems have an immense potential to better the lives of people living with HIV (PLHIV) and communities affected by TB.

The broad aim of the project was to strengthen existing frameworks in place for protection of human rights in the context of HIV and TB. Upon successful completion of the project, KELIN produced a documentary on the implementation journey complemented by two reports namely;

  1. Trends in HIV & TB human rights violations and interventions
  2. Best practices, success stories and lessons learned

The official launch of the report, which will be held in Nairobi, will present KELIN with an opportunity to showcase the success, challenges, lessons learnt and efforts to create an enabling legal environment for people affected by HIV and TB in Kenya.

It is hoped that other like-minded stakeholders and partners will draw lessons from the reports and consider replicating the successes in their programmes.

KELIN will also continue to advance human rights for the vulnerable through fundraising and implementing recommendations provided within the reports.
